About Park County Circuit Court

The circuit court handles both criminal and civil matters. In criminal matters, the court has jurisdiction over misdemeanor cases. It also holds initial and preliminary hearings on felony cases. The court's civil jurisdiction is limited to claims not exceeding $7,000.00. Small claims cases are also the responsibility of the circuit court. The amount of the claim cannot exceed $5,000.00. In addition, circuit court may issue protection orders in cases of domestic violence or stalking.

Additional Information

The circuit court has two Park County offices. The main office is located in the Park County Courthouse in Cody. That office is staffed by the chief clerk, and three full time clerks.The Powell office is located in the Park County Annex and is staffed by one clerk with support provided by the Cody office. The official name of the court is, "Circuit Court of the Fifth Judicial District, Park County, State of Wyoming".
